Veterinary Radiology: Behind The Scenes

with Dr. Chelsea Kunst

Welcome back to Your Dog Wants You To Know This!

Today I want to give the spotlight to radiologists!

Radiologists tend to be behind the scenes in veterinary practice. Pet owners don’t really go to visit them, but they are a really important part of veterinary practice.

In today's episode, we will find out more about what they do and why they’re so important from board-certified veterinary radiologist, Dr. Chelsea Kunst.

Dr. Kunst practices tele-radiology at home with her three dogs and performs ultrasounds for veterinary specialty hospitals near her home. She is a regular instructor of ultrasound education at the Oquendo Center in Las Vegas and lectures yearly at the Western Veterinary Conference.

Today she will talk about how we use radiologists, how they help us in our everyday practice, and best practices going into radiology.

In Today’s Episode We Discuss:

What radiographs are and how they work

Why a radiograph might be used

What an ultrasound entails

When we might use ultrasounds vs radiographs

CT vs. MRI scans and what each one can tell us

Research into PET CT scans

I just love learning about all this stuff and I hope you do too. Radiologists do a lot of great work for us, but we don’t always get to see what that work is, and this was such a great opportunity to learn.
